Center for Health, Exercise and Sport Sciences (CHESS)
CHESS is an educational and research organization that focuses on creating society of knowledge through supreme science and research training, structured around core principles of excellence, integrity, innovation and inquisitiveness. The main aspects of our work are: (1) research and evaluation in the discipline of public health and lifestyle behaviours, (2) education and professional development of the premier quality in the field, and (3) dissemination and application of knowledge for better populational and environmental health.
Our mission is to establish a self-sustaining, continuing education and research programs to illuminate population of all ages about healthy lifestyles, with the ultimate goal of making the population more healthy in a rapidly changing word. In the past years, CHESS undertook dozen projects supported by public and private stakeholders, and national and international funding bodies, from the European Comission through the World Health Organization to industry.
Our members take part in various projects, including “Sport for Health Network” (Sport4Health, ERASMUS Sport + Project, 2019–2021.), “Developing New Curriculum Outlines and Learning Materials on Climate Change's Health Impacts for Medical Schools (CLIMATEMED, ERASMUS + Strategic Partnership Project, 2022-present), and "European Childhood Obesity Surveillance Initiative" (COSI Project, World Health Organization, 2015 - present). We also take part in several international research networks in global health, including NCD Risk Factor Collaboration (Imperial College London) and Global Burden of Disease (University of Washington).
Striving for excellence in promotion of healthier lifestyles and global health, CHESS continues to organize educational seminars and portals, conduct research studies, and produce guidelines and initiatives for better health, with our fundamental and applied research satisfy the needs of research councils, national governing bodies, commercial companies and individuals. Major focus areas of CHESS expertise include public health nutrition, health policy, environmental health sciences, physical activity and exercise prescription, social and behavioral sciences, and biostatistics and epidemiology.
