Health risks in people over 70 years of age

Life expectancy at the age of 70 continues to grow globally, mainly due to the reduction of chronic diseases. A new study by the research consortium Global Burden of Disease, which included associates of our Center, found that people over 70 living in high-income countries and regions with better access and quality of health care have the highest life expectancy and better health. . However, the burden of disability has remained constant, indicating the need to improve public health and programs of interventions to improve well-being among the elderly, especially in the context of functional abilities and fall prevention, treatment of pain and vision and hearing loss. This interesting study, which covered 204 countries in the period from 1990 to 2019, has just been published in a new issue of the prestigious medical journal BMJ and can be downloaded here.
