Youth obesity and COVID-19

The implementation of locking measures around the world to suppress the transmission of COVID-19 not only affected the patterns of behavior of young people and weight gain, but also increased the risk of creating the so-called. disenfranchised environment, and thus the patterns of interaction between young people and the environment. However, although it is causing adverse changes, COVID-19 may accelerate the transformation of the research landscape from a traditional to a modern way to gather more reliable evidence of the link between obesity and environmental factors. This is the topic of the last special issue of the renowned scientific journal Obesity Reviews, where a series of articles used research in which researchers from our Center also participated. The entire expert community should closely monitor and study these effects of COVID-19 and adjust public health interventions.
